The Longest Day
There is no doubt that completing the 40 mile Louise Smalley Walk is something to be proud of. Let's face it......it's not easy.........in fact, it's bloody difficult. Not many people make the trek without suffering aches and pains of some description.

The following day, most walkers turn up to pick up their belongings from the support minibuses and enjoy a few pints at the Royal Oak with fellow walkers. Reminiscing over the previous days exertions. The atmosphere is superb. Rose coloured spectacles are worn by most walkers who now claim that it was not all that difficult really!..............Cobblers. The haze of beer and a good nights sleep has dulled the memory somewhat. The truth is, it hurt. However, we'll be back next year.
Mainly, the conversation is around little incidents that happened on the way. Everybody talks about the support crews and how brilliant they are. Most common statement - "we could not have made it without them". The camaraderie that is the walk has to be experienced to be believed.
Each and every walker vowing to help their pals reach the end.
One chap, Vic Clarke, was so moved by his experience in 2004 that he felt the need to put pen to paper and record his experience of this special event. This was Vics' first go at the LSW and, yes, he did come back the following year for more..........as lots do!
He called his ramblings THE LONGEST DAY.
